Ion Storojenco

Violoncello

Ion Storojenco is a musician with a wide range of concert activities. As a soloist he has performed with orchestras from Austria, Germany, Egypt, Romania and Moldova and through his many years of activity as a substitute for the famous Vienna Philharmonic as well as the many chamber music groups with which he has developed a wide repertoire and played on some of the most famous concert halls in the world. Born into a family of musicians, he graduated from the music high school in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and left to study to Vienna and Paris to continue his studies with teachers such as Valentin Erben, Marc Coppey, Reihard Latzko and Robert Nagy. In 2017, he graduated from the University of Music in Vienna with the academic title Magister artium. Since 2013 he has been a substitute for the Vienna Philharmonic, performing under conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti, Andris Nelsons, Adam Fischer, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Valeri Gergiev, Carles Dutoit, Gianandrea Noseda, Jaap van Zweden, Esa- Pekka Salonen, Fabio Luisi, Yutaka Sado or Franz Welser-Möst. He played and appeared on the stages of the most renowned concert halls such as the Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Santori Hall in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall in New York or Teatre de Champs dElysees in Paris. From 2015 to 2017 he was the principal cellist at the Badische Philharmonie in Pforzheim, Germany. He was invited to renown international festivals, including Verbier - Switzerland, Salzburg Festival in Austria, Stavanger Chamber Festival - Norway, Ars Lituanica in Vilnius, Trenta in Slovenia and IJOA Bayreuth, Germany.

He performed with orchestras such as Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim,  Akademischer         

Orchesterverein Wien, Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestras in Iași, Cluj, Satu-Mare, Târgu-Mureș, Sibiu, Ploiești and Chisinau with conductors like Vlad Conta and Cristian Florea , Mihai Agafiță, Tiberiu Soare, Ilarion Ionescu-Galați, Horia Andreescu and others. Since September 2018 he works on his doctoral degree at the University of Music in Cluj under the direction of Professor Adrian Pop. He has won numerous national and international competitions, including Gradus ad Parnassum in Graz, Austria, Liezen Cello Competition, Mihail Jora - Bucharest Competition, with numerous prizes and awards. Ion plays an instrument from 1802 by the English violin maker Thomas Kennedy and one from 1892 by the French violin maker Collin-Mezin.
